HOUR OF POWER! II
Well Gents its nearly that time again! Tuesdays hour of power, we go till we blow!
Start: 4:30pm
We start with a 15min warm up, then the games begin. It has been suggest we try an elimination race.
So for this, we race around and every lap and the guy at the back gets elimated, until you have have 2 guys sprinting for the line. On this occasion I say we do a 2 laps before we start the elimination period.
I think we try for atleast 3 back to back with two laps cool down inbetween to allow the winners from the last race to catch their breath and regroup. I recommend doing back to back for a few reasons.
1) For the guys that get elimated early it will mean they get to have another go quicker, so If you get eliminated on the first lap, you dont have to wait for 15mins for that race to finish then another 15mins for the last guys to catch there breath.
2) Obviously the stronger riders will be in the front on the first go, but if they have to do 3 in a row this will really make them have to push hard in the 2 and even harder in the 3rd. This then making like a handicap for the slower riders in the 2nd and 3rd races.
3) Doing 3 elimination will be taxing on the legs so doing 3 back to back will make strategies more important then just slogging it out.
Now if we get thru the 3 elimination races pretty easy I say we do another Cat and Mouse chase. We split the group, half go from one side of the track and half from the other and the object is for one group to catch the other. I think this worked pretty well last week.
Well these are my thoughts. If anybody else has any ideas they are welcome, even if we dont do them this week their is always next week.
Cheers

That sounds like a great idea Grant. I reckon do the elimination this week for two reasons, the first because I'm the one that keeps harping on about it and the second, because I'll be riding to Tenterfield the following Tuesday.
Going back to back will be good, as you say it gives those knocked out early a better chance in the next ones.
We should also try (if everyone's not too fried), Bruce's suggestion of getting our 'teams' of three together and going off the front in a break simulation and seeing what speed we can sustain before being caught by the rest. Something like that anyway, you get the jist.

Yea I like the team idea. We can see what we can organise tomorrow and give it a shot.
I like Bruce's idea of working with the same few guys for a couple of weeks. I think this would be very beneficial during a race and encourage better team work and team tactics.

Re: HOUR OF POWER! II
My new idea is:
wait til race day...in the first 30 minutes, see who is prepared to do most of the work, hit on them to do a joint break, and force the rest of the pack to do a bit of honest work to catch you. ...forget about who is wearing what jersey...
Pros:
- no time wasted trying to convince team mates to train to break.
- no disappointments when team mates don't break with you.
- no team mates hustling you in the sprint.
- no sanctimonious transparent BS from team mates about looking like Lance Armstrong post race.

Me jaded!? nah....just paranoid...though doesn't mean the bastards aren't really out to get me!
Though I am half serious. If 4 racers are doing 75% of the work on the front, they're the ones that have the most to gain from a break. They are more likely endurance guys, who don't have a plan to win the sprint. And specialist sprinters are still getting a pull off their hard work.
On the day, one's team mates may be no shows or not feeling strong. The ones peppy enough to put the effort in to break are more likely the ones not shying from doing the work on the front. It's better to take them with you in a break than leave them behind to wear your gap down while pulling the sprinters.
I don't necessarily agree that surging and trying to keep the speed higher is a worthwhile tactic. The riders suffering from that are those initiating it.

I mustn't have trained hard enough. They don't hurt anymore than usual.
So GD, are you going to break from the start with Phil and Joe on Sat?
