Giro Dream Team Competition
Hi Guys and Girls,
Any interest in doing this, probably on a similar basis to last years TdF comp but...open to suggestions
we may do it through a different forum this year. But lets here what you all have to say. My thinking is that since it is a lead up event maybe the 'buy in' is a bit less say $5 per head....although if you have more 'skin in the game' it usually creates more interest, animation and 'enthusiasm' with the team banter. What do you think.
I will be away during this years TdF so...whilst I might 'roving report' I won't be anywhere near the action.
This does not preclude anyone else from volunteering to manage this years event, again if there is sufficient interest.

Re: Giro Dream Team Competition
hmmm...all too hard and ultimately in the hands of the Gods.
it's like betting on who is most likely to crash.
I'll go back to working on a better algorithm for Strava's Suffer Score.
The mathematicians amongst us might like to ponder the challenge:
Strava Suffer Score = K1*t1 + K2*t2 + K3*t3 + K4*t4 + K5*t5
where:
t1 = time in hours in zone 1
t2 = time in hours in zone 2
t3 = time in hours in zone 3
t4 = time in hours in zone 4
t5 = time in hours in zone 5
(zones are heart rate training zones)
With coefficient roughly equal to the following (may be off by 1/hr):
K1 = 12/hr
K2 = 24/hr
K3 = 45/hr
K4 = 100/hr
K5 = 120/hr

Re: Giro Dream Team Competition
I had a go at logging in on the info you had there Ric and ended up creating my OWN LEAGUE!! Not what I was aiming for!
Anyway, all got a bit hard.
I'll take my chances, as always, with Sportsbet and just bet on stage wins.
Thanks for organising anyway.

I just wanted to thankyou Phil, for having me in regular fits of guffaws at work today. Your comment this morning re the pending 'windfall' was solid gold. A shame it cannot be shared more widely.

Re: Giro Dream Team Competition
Everyone, unfortunately I also had problems with team names/leagues in setting the thing up. The instructions on the velo site (and mine probably!) weren't that great. So I think since I've left it a bit to late to sort things out properly.... and only a few of us are interested I think we should pull the pin on this comp. Sorry I wasn't more organised.
We could have an informal 'manual' sweepstake out of the hat for GC at 'C' word tomorrow if you like.
cheers
Ric

Stage 12....bucketing cats and dogs...mainly downhill -> goodbye Girlie Wiggo....(and he caught a cold as soon as it rained)
and snow predicted for the weekend stages....
Cadel and the Columbians could triumph

Re: Giro Dream Team Competition
Apparently Goss had a cold too but still finished 2 minutes ahead of Wiggo and notice that Wiggo had most of his support around him while Orica did much better in the Team and Super Team results ...for this stage anyway.....You get the feeling Sky would like to just pack up and go home? And as it turns out there is some news (with a picture of a veerry glum Sir Wiggo) that he might retire from race...so much for British Bulldog! But it could be a plot to be in better form for the defence of his TdF and his 'support' for Froome. Time will tell.
Next 2 stages should give us an indication of how Evans and Nibali will square off. Whereas Orica GE will probably need to look toward stage 16 and depending on how they hang together early on, and if Goss has recovered, they might feature at the end. But I think Cav can still look toward win 101
