Chandler track training
A few of us are keen to get over to Chandler for the Tuesday night training/racing session soon. All you need is a fixie, sans brakes, your racing license and 10 bucks.
I'll put forward the date of Tuesday 28th (Tuesday week) to see what everyone thinks and we'll go from there.
Joe can correct me if I'm wrong but I think it starts around 6.30pm.
What do you say guys?

I'm out. I've got a new interest without starting a second cycling interest.

Re: Chandler track training
Hey GD and GeemacD, are you guys bringing your own track bikes or do you plan on hiring one?
The only thing is if hiring, Joe needs to prearrange it with Maria down at Nundah on Sat morning so the guy can leave them in the office for Tuesday night as he isn't there then, something like that anyway.

Re: Chandler track training
I'm not really sure what you can and can't have on your bike as I've only been a couple of times myself but I'd say fixed gear bike, no brakes and drop bars + helmet is about it. We'll check with Joe before next week to make sure.
I'm running a 48/15 on mine at the moment but also have a 14 and 16 as options. I guess it depends on your strengths and riding style also what type of event it is.

Chandler track training
I'll be bringing my own track bike.
My limited understanding of riding on the track (in NSW) is that the cranks on track bikes are normally a bit shorter to allow for the banking etc. Your fixie should be fine. Other than that, so long as you've got no brakes, speedo's, meters, lights, reflectors (or flags GD.! ) you're pretty well good to go. It could pay to call the Qld office though to be sure.
And if you want to leave the current gearing set-up on the bike, I'll be sure to bring my video camera... It'll be a real hoot.!!!

CHANDLER TRACK TRAINING
Thanks Phil, those vids stir up some excitement for sure..!
FYI GD I've just found a track front chain (BCD 144, 48T) which you're more than welcome to use if you want. It may not be exactly what you're after but may get you out of a pickle for a while. Let me know if you want to use it on your fixie and I'll bring it.
Other than that, after watching those vids, I must say I'm getting excited.!!! It allows me to remember just how much of a buzz track riding really is.
Who else is coming on Tues night???

Yes Phil, those videos really put you on the bike. They brought back memories of my one and only time at Chandler. All great! It really is exciting. I wonder what speed they were averaging?

Hey guys,
Unless things have changed, they used to only have a couple of hire bikes, so if anyone else needed one they might have to let Joe know so he can tell Maria to 'reserve' one.

Hey guys,
for those heading out to Chandler tonight, I've just heard that you'll need to bring your racing licence and that it's now $13 (not $10 as we previously thought).
Cheers, bring it on...!

Chandler track training
For sure.! It was great fun and an awesome buzz. Definitely something I'll be doing some more of.
And for those who were unable to come along last night, I can thoroughly recommend it. Come out and give it a try. You can hire a bike for $10 and you get really good instruction on what to do. They then place you in a grade to learn the ropes.
To get the juices flowing, I wanted to attach some pics of our Ascot Catering "Quad Squad" consisting of Dahlek, 180, GD and myself last night but can't figure out how to do that right now (I've followed the link to https://servimg.com/index.php? but am unable to create an account. Any suggestions welcome).
Our soigneur/mechanic/photographer was GD's lovely Mrs..! (Thanks RL)
Anyway, I'll get these pics up when I can.
Cheers and hope you can make it next Tuesday night.!!

Re: Chandler track training
Glen, I use Photobucket and Google's Picasa, the former being the easier to manage.
AFAIK, these are purely photo storage and sharing sites. If you are inclined, have a go at Photobucket, and ask for help if you cannot work it out.
Another option to think about : mates are using cloud servers now for private and commercial use, such as Drop Box, and these can create direct links to pics and image folders, in addition to movies and other file types; though I haven't been able to work out how to create direct file links in the short time I tried, and it might even require a paid account. Anyway, storing files off your computer has a lot of advantages - auto backed up, share between multiple computers and friends via direct links, access when away from home, etc.
edit: one of the cool features of photobucket is it is easy to upload pics as soon as you snap them with your mobile phone. I suppose other services can do the same. certainly possible to upload videos to utube. a word of advice though. I figure most people looking at pics these days do so directly via computer. I therefore set the default image size smaller 800x600 or 1024x768. This reduces the size of your files dramatically and when uploading from phone, doesn't attract as high a data cost. It is also better netiquette not to use large format when small will do as this chews up viewer's bandwidth. Not such an issue if you have a 50GB adsl2 account off your landline, but it is when using smart phones.

Re: Chandler track training
Yeah guys, it was a good night. Can't beat $13 for two hours entertainment, even if it was us who had to 'entertain'!!
Highly recommend coming over for anyone else thats interested, we may even get that track hire day happening if we get enough takers to make it worthwhile. I'm sure Billy would help us out with that anyway, he seemed keen enough to note that he was qualified as the commissaire/first aid/overseer type person we need for it. I guess it would just be a matter of lining up the dots with dates/participation etc.,
Definately keen to make it a Tuesday night regular.
I can feel an 'upgrade in equipment and subsequent financial worries due to online bike shopping feeling coming on'.....
