Ascot Catering goes BUSH!!
Hi Everyone,
I was going to put this in the 'normal' rides section but thought it might get buried in amongst the other topics.
Basically, I spoke to PedroH tonight at the track and proposed a mountain bike ride up South Boundary Rd(well groomed fire trail from Gap Creek to Nebo Village). It really is a good training ride with plenty of climbing but only fairly short at 40-45kms return.
I suggest we start at Highwood Rd(off Gap Ck Rd) and ride up from there.
One thing I will say is this ride HAS to be done on a weekend as the Boombana Cafe at Nebo is a Fri-Sun job, and a mega coffee and/or pancake stack IS COMPULSORY on this ride!
So, if you have a mountain bike in working order and are keen on this idea, I reckon you should register your interest on this thread so we can plan.
The more the merrier.
My first available day would be the 18th of March(two weeks away), so let us know if you're keen.
I actually have a dual suspension(medium) MTB that someone can borrow if needed, you will just need shoes. I have cleats for the pedals.(Shimano)

Yes Phil,

You don't need to justify anything. Just buy it. C'mon, you know you want to.
BTW, I still can't figure out who is geemacd!
Any other clues?

My best guess is Glenn McI....except 'D' is no where near 'I' on a keyboard.

I thought the same thing Bruce(as in Glenn Mc), but also wondered where the 'D' came into it.
Maybe it derives from a REALLY embarassing nickname from a deep dark past!!

ASCOT CATERING GOES BUSH!!
Phil
I am definitely still in. Cootha would be fun but with massive numbers of riders out I think it could get slow and frustrating in parts - South Boundary Rd will be the tougher workout for sure. Plus, my MTB friends on Strava are seeing all the road and Crit track workouts and are beginning to question my allegiances so I need to show them that I am not afraid to get dirty.
I agree with your email - If riders have little experience climbing, or confidence descending on the dirt this ride might not be a good place to start but that said, I think roadies are of a higher general fitness level than a lot of MTBers and I hope we get a good crew. Here is a map/info link for BFP http://www.mtbdirt.com.au/brisbane-trails/view/trail/13/brisbane-forest-park-national-park-
As far as gear goes, here is an inventory of what I will be weighed down with: 12.8kg bike, Camelbak Mule with 3 litres of fluid, water purification tablets, Endone, 1 x 2.15 tube (although I run tubeless), tyre levers, pump, zippy ties, knife, multitool, phone, cash, gels bars bananas etc...,
After I hump all that up Sth Boundary I will need the giant coffee and breakfast at Boombana.
See you Sunday.

ASCOT CATERING GOES BUSH!!
Thanks for this info and invite lads, very much appreciated. Would love to come and give MTBing a try but will have to put this on the back-burner for a little while.
Look forward to hearing how it all goes and, if possible, some pics of the boys gettin down 'n' dirty would be good too.
Enjoy boys, cheers

Re: Ascot Catering goes BUSH!!
Despite what the group does, I'm up for a solo Nundah Nebo road ride (1.5hrs?) to rendezvous with you guys around 8am for coffee and munchies.
I am not doing the Coot-tha Challenge due to injury interrupted training and potential overcrowding of the route.
Can do Coot-tha backside any old day anyways.(

ASCOT CATERING GOES BUSH!!
I just picked this trail report from MTB Dirt dated yesterday...
FYI just back from a South Boundary ascent from enogerra res. Wettest points are after Augies turnoff heading to Nebo. But It's actually in pretty good shape. No need for a bike clean anyway...

Re: Ascot Catering goes BUSH!!
Currently, PaulD, Martin (new rider), and I are leaving Wilston Coffee Club at 6am to road ride to Nebo. If we get there well before 8am, we'll continue towards Glorious and return to the cafe at 8 for some munchies. I'm thinking we'll do Wilston Nebo in 1.5 hrs.
If anymore than light showers, we'll probably cancel and go to Scarborough.

Re: Ascot Catering goes BUSH!!
I've pulled the pin on the ride in the morning as it will be a mud pit up there on the trail.
We'll leave it for another time.
PedroH, I hope you get this tonight as I havent heard back from you. I'd hate for you to turn up there in the morning and no-one is there.

Phil - Got it mate. I concur. My drive train can do without it.
I think I am even going to bail on the road ride if this keeps up.
Might see you at C Word later in the morning for coffee.
