Weekend rides for the Jan 26 - 27
Hi group,
The weather will be a factor over the long weekend as heavy rain is forecast Saturday and Sunday. Michael is still down the coast and I'm working over the weekend.
Rode to Scarborough today, in the light rain, and had two punctures on the way back!
FRIDAY
0630am - recovery ride leaving from the track to Nudgee Beach
SATURDAY
0530am - leave from the canon for racing at Lakeside starting 0645am
SUNDAY
0600am - usual Scarborough ride (60km). Other rides can be accommodated.
MONDAY
0600am - ride to be decided on the day and who shows up
Enjoy your cycling everyone . . .
Note: All Sunday rides now leave from the old German Cannon at the
Memorial Park, cnr of Buckland Road and Bage Street Nundah
Robert 0438 152 700
Michael 0417 752 211

Re: Weekend rides for the Jan 26 - 27
Hey guys Hope to get out on Sunday and get a decent ride in, Pending rain of cause.
Start: 5:30
Where : Nundah Cannon
Route: Rode Rd, Mailman Track, Bunya Rd, Eatons Crossing, Clear Mtn, Wynn Rd, and either straight back to Nundah or Scarbrough Via Petrie if anyone is interested.
Also for Monday I was thinking maybe a Wellington Point ride, anyone else got any ideas?

I got an idea...... TAKE SOME FLIPPERS WITH YOU.
Sounds like you got no chance of getting out up there.
Get down this way, beautiful weather.
Although I'll probably be sick of Mt Buffalo by Sunday evening! Gotta do 3 x ascents for the 250km due to the bushfire and road closures.
The Bright Brewery might be a better option!!

So it seems this rain will more than likely be here all weekend, So wondering if its still here tomorrow late morning if anybody may be interested in blowing the dust of the mountain bikes and getting muddy?

more likely rain is here for a week. glad I got my base k's in over summer.
I'll be doing pool laps, gym, and low O2 cycling studio
never mind, the Feb-Apr rainfall outlook is 40-45% chance of exceeding median.

Yeah Smokey, it looks like this week is out but there is always next week. And 180 hopefully will be back by then and bring the fine weather with him. Don't get caught in those bushfires 180. I'll be on the mag trainer which has proved its worth. I like the route Smokey. See you next week if not sooner if the weather clears.

Late notice: MTB RIDE. Subject to weather BruceE and I will be heading off 07:00 Sunday from Nundah Criterium to Sandgate via wetlands. Coffee at Dougs and return. Slight rain will be OK but a tornado like Bargara might stop us

If you are leaving at 6am, Dougs most likely won't be open when you get there.

Re: Weekend rides for the Jan 26 - 27
I don't mind the rain, it's getting my bike dirty that's the problem
I'm looking at a couple of the cyclocross bikes that are out at the moment as a commuter. Road style set up but with disc brakes. Meridia (105 drive train) make a nice looking one, Specialised are selling a couple of different models but want a lot for their bikes and they only have Sora and Tiagra drive trains.

I managed an hour on the trainer today and will go for a swim tomorrow.
Will be looking for a ride on Monday. Hopefully this weather will be over then.

With a 30-40knot NE gale up your backside the ride home should be a cracker!

Pissing down here and quite windy. Satellite picture horrendous, so riding through wetlands?? I've pulled the pin, but would be an interesting ride for a mudlark...

Am gonna head into C Word around 8am, and see if the Nundah markets are on - would be tough with a stall in this weather though.
40 knot (70km) easterlies at Redcliffe and Sandgate at the moment.
Would be a good time to set a 200 metre sprint PR at Nundah Crit track right now!!

Nice to see Karen-Anne and I weren't alone in our cabin fever - SteveF and MarkMc also had to venture down for a latte and ear bashing.
FYI, CWord is closed tomorrow.

Well after inspecting the crit track this morning, Martin and I agreed there'd be no racing there for at least 2 weeks.
The toilet block went under water about 4 feet, and around 80% of the track was under. There's a fine mud across a lot of it, and debris from the high water mark.

Amazing how pig ignorant so many pedestrians are re sharing the path - just stop and block the whole thing while having a chat, don't move over to allow you through, walk with dog on loose leash on the RHS.
It's as if some people think they or their dog will explode if they touch the grass.
I think I'll be buying a MTB before my next roadie somehow.
Hmmmm Giant Talon 29er....

Re: Weekend rides for the Jan 26 - 27
here is some more video.. (yes I was bored today haha)
http://contour.com/stories/kedron-brook-flooded-bike-path
you should have seen the people on the way back, I realized I had a bell and I was swinging off the bell at every person. Not one even turned around to look, let alone squeeze from 3 wide to single file. Should have thrown the bell at them, that would have got there attention.
Nice looking MTB

Re: Weekend rides for the Jan 26 - 27
I walked through Kalinga Park and up to the picnic shelter upstream from Shaw Rd around 4pm yesterday.
The water must have come up a lot higher overnight.
You should have seen Sandgate yesterday arvo around 6pm.
Went down to have a look at the bike path at Toombul Shops this morning....and guess who should roll along on his mtb....the irrepressible big kid.....BruceE. He was going to try and get over to Sandgate via the Wetlands.
I am surprised he didn't want to try it last night at high tide. Would have been more "exciting".

Some nice local pics on BNA forum.

The awning (and roof?) in front of Simply Duo in Nundah wasn't down when I drove through around 8am this morning, but was a few hours later. I wonder if Joe's business was effected?

Hey GD . . . did you take that video of Kedron Brook cycleway? Grantdog doesn't look like you but the video was great. I thought it would take a week to get the track working again but after seeing your video it will be more like a month! And the pedestrians are just as you say. Totally unaware of bike path etiquette. And they whinge about us! But great viewing. You picked good lines around obstacles but I couldn't help noticing that the smallest hill in Brisbane stopped you! Now why was that I wonder? Anyway, are you going to enter that ride on Strava?
