Weekend ride Sat 18th.. Nth NSW
Okay adventure seekers,
Here is an option I've put together for this Saturday.
http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=541527
Of course it's open to discussion, but not too much!!
I think it takes in some of the old favourite stuff, with a bit of new (Cudgen/Duranbah/Farrants Hill Rds), only to make it around the desired distance that we're after.
Naturally, there will be stops at Tyalgum (for coffee/food), and Chillingham (if you have room for choc-coated frozen banana after that).
Martin, you can, if you know how to, load it on your Garmin via a GPX file (don't ask me, I wouldn't have a clue), but like I said, this is NOT a race to see what speed we can average. It's a base ride with scenery and coffee and food, and hopefully you can see what we've been banging on about for so long! We will be re-grouping at the appropriate intervals based on how we're all travelling.
Also,
DAHLPAD.
I would love it if you could come along. Just ONCE!!
You won't regret it.
We leave from the usual Winders Park at Currumbin (at a time that suits everyone).
From Nundah, allow 60-65 mins.
Any queries, please ask.

Very scenic course Phil. Thanks mate.
Looks like the rain will be gone by then too. Though coolish in the morning.

Springbrook is a fair way from where we're riding.
It can be a ride for another day. I'll map one out and we can lock in another date if you like.

Good news about the back Scotty, but you're gonna have to convince the others about starting at 7.30'ish.
Anyway, Friday nights stage is a flat one for the gallopers (longest stage of the Giro), so some pommy prat like Cavendish will probably win it!!
Now, if it was a mountain stage, I could understand.
How about we do a 'snap poll' of the likely starters tomorrow night on the forum and see what the general consensus is about a start time?

Okay Gents,
Who's in, and what time do you want to kick off from Currumbin on Saturday?
For anyone not familiar with the start point, it's Winders Park on Duringan St at Currumbin. take Exit 93 off the highway. It takes me an hour from Nundah, it may take you more if you are law abiding!
Scotty has requested a 'Gentlemens Hour' start time of 7.30-8.00!! I'm easy, but would probably prefer no later than 7.00. The earlier we leave, the less bogans we are likely to encounter on the roads before we hit Bilambil.
Up to you guys.
Who I think is coming...

any others?

Second that... Mate, look at it this way, the earlier we start, the more kip you can get in the arvo when you get home and be fresh for sat nights stage. It's gonna be interesting watching them on the looooonnnnggggg 60km drag up Sestriere! (Climbed it from the other side, awesome climb)

I'm not going to make it. I have a cold so don't think I should try this ride.
If I improve tomorrow i'll let you know.

It's not a difficult ride at all Martin, so if you feel like your cold isn't too bad and you would still ride locally, don't rule this one out.MartinW wrote:I'm not going to make it. I have a cold so don't think I should try this ride.

It's not like we're doing Grafton/Inverell. Don't let it spook you.

yeah 630 ride start, latest imho.
gets us over Tomewin Rd earlier.
just start drinking earlier (and finish earlier) on Fri nights Scotty
should be a bonza day, after the cold front that came through today. cold = psshead bogans sleep later

What, 10C water temp? That should be good for reducing the 'tackle' size!!!BruceG wrote:and bring you togs just in case the temp is above 10C when we finish

OK Chaps. 0630 ride start it is. I'll be leaving around 0500 I reckon. Looking forward to a great ride and a crispy Sat start....
Pity no DahlPad (or his alias GrandPad) on deck, he would have enjoyed the frozen bananas and a sly peak @ bikie chicks of variable age.
BY THE WAY Giro can look at ATOC for a hardarse stages, race leaders all falling off their bikes as they cross the line after ascending tramline in desert temps.... Impressive fluid and electrolyte management gurus behind the scenes I reckon.
By the way I was on the roof today when the cold change hit... Was like being in the Day after 2mrw movie.

nah air temp. Gold Coast water temp never goes below 17C from memory.
I was gonna add for Scott's benefit, that starting Friday drinks earlier in the afternoon works for you 180...never seen you with a hangover on a Sat morning.
