Sunday Dec 16th ride
Hey there fellow cycling/coffee fans,
Some early suggestions for a ride on this Sunday 16th down the coast.
Option 1
http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=484119
Option 2
http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=484120
Option 3
http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=484123
N.B. Options 2 and 3 DON'T include frozen chocolate coated bananas @ Chillingham!!
However ALL options include gastronomical delights at Flutterbies/Flutterbucks.
Any interested parties please make yourself known.
Edit to add.... Swimming attire for post ride cool down is almost a must.

Hey Scotty,
Yes, still on. I will play around with it tonight and just pick a course and put it up. I know GTW is keen to ride but indicated something around 130'ish would suit him as he has other commitments. Also Tina is interested and may bring Marty along too.

Yeah I am interested. But haven't been on the bike since Sunday due to this cold/flu. Will plan to come and let you know Sat night whether I am in for sure.

Re: Sunday Dec 16th ride
Okay, this IS the ride for Sunday.
It's got a bit for everyone.
147kms with only a couple of climbs with the option at the 24km from end mark of turning right and going back over Hogans Rd (which I've never done before) and going back through Tweed Heads along the beach, OR, just come back over Tomewin to follow the course as per map.
Naturally, there will be the obligatory stop at Tyalgum (Flutterbies/Bucks) for some sensational food/coffee delights which actually falls at roughly 2/3rds of the way through the ride, not to mention Chillingham, 11kms after that for CCFB!!
Wardrop Valley Rd just outside of Murwillumbah is a really nice little circuit and one that Tina and I missed out on the other week when we attempted this ride.
Start time is 5:30am at Winders Park on Duringan St, Currumbin. Just park on the left near the toilets next to Currumbin Ck.
(Exit 93 off the M1) then left on Sarawak, right around the roundabout onto Thrower Dve, then left onto Duringan. 100mts on left is carpark.
BRING..
Spares, cash, food, phone, 2 x bidons and swim attire for after ride cool down at the 'Alley'
Let me know if you're in.

As you can see it's a bit 'light on' as far as elevation gain goes (148kms - 1400mts), but it does offer some good pinchy sections, so don't be discouraged if you think it's not hard enough for you.
Dahlpad, I'm throwing the offer out there.
If you get yourself to my place, I'll drive you down there and back just to show you what you're missing out on!! Remember our conversation during the week.
C'mon mate, you know you want to.

Re: Sunday Dec 16th ride
bummer about this flu holding on.....but nice to catch up for breaky at Flutterbies. Tomewin must have been tough in the heat.
For future ref, there's toilets with water at the back of Chillingham FCCB store
We had a chat to the owners after you left and they showed us all the bushes and trees they're growing.
See their website for more....very interesting

I chatted briefly with some of the motorbike chicks at Flutterbies. Here's a bit about their club

Re: Sunday Dec 16th ride
Tomewin was tough, esp with the heat. I had a flat 1/2 way up which gave us all a bit of recovery and respite. Really enjoyed the ride and the swim at Currumbin at the end made the day.

Re: Sunday Dec 16th ride
Yeah, I dunno' about you blokes but my legs are f*cked!!!
Just for future reference on rides like these that are longer than 100km, I STRONGLY suggest not to try and get an average speed that you might like to see on your Garmin at the end of a 'shorter' ride, especially when it's as hot as today.
I believe it's warranted occasionally to try and push the pace a bit on a 'less hilly' rides like todays, but most coaches will tell you it's a LSD (long slow distance) ride. In other words, do your long/base/endurance rides at a heart rate that doesn't 'tax' you like interval/speed or effort work might do. (This all layman speak of course)
Otherwise, today was another cracker of a ride in a location that can't be beaten (not in a 200km radius anyway).
Thanks for coming guys, great ride, company and yet again Tyalgum didn't disappoint.

Re: Sunday Dec 16th ride
Yea same my legs are fried! deft felt very average today but geez Scott you must have been putting in some sneaky miles somewhere?..
That sun today was bloody brutal! going up Tomewin I had sweat just pouring off me! I think I drank till I thought I would burst at every drink stop and I think I just got through without being dehydrated plus not to mention the killer sunburn on my arms! I will be putting in a order for those arm coolers soon.
Anyway once again, great food, even better coffee.. awesome choccy nanas, top quality company and a cracker of a ride!
Seriously people just make the journey once! you won't be disapointed!

Re: Sunday Dec 16th ride
For no good reason, I'm quiet slothful today...... Maybe ~150k and 1600m do have consequences.
For those who didn't come yesterday, some photos of the ride.
Dawn moments to indulge quiet contemplation and a pre-emptive solace of post-ride surfing.
We are not exercising, we are indeed living in the moment.
Sweeping quiet road and we own it.
Serenity prevails, though glimpses ahead foretell disruption
Shade, artisan food, columbian coffee, water and reflective discussion to dislodge us from our course.
Lance Armstrong isn't to be the only topic of conversation: Formidable dominatrix leathers shedded and Kyasa females will turn a man's head

Yes, really good pics Scott. Just makes me want to plan the next one!!
Mind you, I'm suffering today. Nothing like working on the roof in 40+ degrees to make you 'feel your age'!!
